I’m the leader of the Causal Inference Group at Erasmus MC here in beautiful Rotterdam. I have two main interests:
How to infer causation when the assumptions we rely on are not satisfied. Here I’m talking about causal triangulation, bias analyses or negative controls. Given that we are always forced to make inferences under these conditions, this, to me, is a very underexplored and underused part of causal infernece.
Trying to get the field of epidemiology away from poor research practices such as unclear research questions (“the association”), failure to use causal methods where appropriate or how results are interpreted.
Feel free to contact me if you’re interested in setting up a research visit to learn epidemiologic methods or causal inference in my group. I’m also happy to accommodate students in French, Spanish and Portuguese. English is the default language for science but it doesn’t always have to be!
